Dear TCS Community:On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I am delighted to announce the appointment of Roslyn “Roz” Benjamin as the next Head of School for The Children’s School. We are excited to have found a leader with her experience, education and passion for progressive education and our core values. Her tenure will begin on July 1, 2020. Through a rigorous process led by an extraordinary search committee, Roz was chosen from an impressive pool of (inter)national candidates. The Search Committee was united in presenting Roz as its nominee to the Board of Trustees, and the Board of Trustees enthusiastically accepted that recommendation. Choosing a Head of School fulfills one of the most important responsibilities of the Board of Trustees: ensuring effective leadership for TCS. In Roz, we have found a passionate, dedicated and dynamic leader who is well poised to build upon TCS’s legacy as we embark upon this next leg in our journey and toward our next 50 years. She is currently in her ninth year as Assistant Head of School at Live Oak School in San Francisco, CA where she is known as a trusted thought partner and collaborative leader who has made a lifelong impact on the students and school during her tenure there. Her colleagues spoke with the utmost confidence and respect regarding her leadership, her effectiveness in connecting with the entire school’s constituency, her inclusive management style, her approachable and visible presence on campus, her focus on goals, and her ability to move things forward in a collaborative way while also being able to make hard decisions. Roz is excited to build upon the legacy and culture of our beloved TCS and is ready to embrace TCS’s mission of active and joyful learning for all students. Furthermore, Roz is eager to build her own personal relationships at TCS and understands the importance of cultivating community both within the school and in the larger TCS community. She states, “I look forward to working with this community to ensure that TCS students have the opportunity to learn bravely while preserving their childhood in a curriculum that balances academic rigor with joyful learning. TCS’s commitment to project-based learning encourages students to think critically, as they take what they have learned previously and apply it to novel situations. TCS’s rich diversity also provides students with the opportunity to explore and find pride in their identities, which supports their growth and learning. I am excited to join this community. Go Wolf Pack!” I would like to extend my deep appreciation for the incredible efforts of the entire Search Committee, led by Chair Fran Gary, for their countless hours of dedicated service to this search and to this school. Additionally, I want to thank all of the students, faculty, staff, and parents who provided such thoughtful feedback during the search. Your observations were insightful, heartfelt and of great value in our process, and your participation is an outstanding testament to our strong and vibrant community. As the search process now officially and happily concludes, the most important work remains. Nishant continues to lead the school through the remainder of this school year and, together with the Board of Trustees, has already begun work to ensure a seamless leadership transition. We are in the process of creating a Transition Committee who will lead the effort to assist Roz as she prepares for her move to Atlanta and during the first year of her tenure as she guides the school into its next chapter. Early in the new year, there will be opportunities to meet and welcome Roz before she arrives on campus next summer. We will also have opportunities to thank and recognize Nishant and his wife Neeti for their leadership and significant contributions to our school and school community. We have much to celebrate in the New Year! The depth and breadth of the pool of interested candidates in leading our school reflect how special The Children’s School is, and all of us in the TCS community can be proud that Roz has accepted the Head of School position. Please join me in welcoming Roz, her husband André, their son Michael (7th grade) and daughter Maya (freshman, Syracuse University) to our school community and to Atlanta! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season! |
